John 4:13-14
13Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
The first thing that jumps at me after reading this verses is that we as humans have plenty of worldly addictions and obsessions. Not necessary bad things but normal everyday routines. Examples are sleeping, watching TV, and even exercising. Not to say these are bad things but done excessively can be spiritually fatal.
I always gave importance to getting at least 7-8 hrs of sleep a day or I will be cranky and feeling tired all throughout the day. Same thing is true, I hate missing my favorite TV shows, the Mavs, Cowboys and Stars games. I could sit in front of the TV for hours just to past time and wait for a good show to come on. Working out in the gym and playing sports are my other passion in life. If only we have more hours in a day, I for sure, would be doing these in abundance.
But this is me now: Even with only 5-6hrs of sleep every night specially on the weekends, as long as the first thing I do is drown myself in the Word of the Lord and/or do His work through my ministry for His church, the dragging feeling and the irritability feeling are a thing of the past.
As far as spending a lot of time watching TV -- all I can say is I thank God for TIVO. Now I do not have to let the TV shows dictate my schedule but I have control over how I spend my quite time and family time without any distractions.
Yes, it is good to be physically healthy and fit. but what I have noticed is that if I do a lot of exercises and physical activity, when I get home, I am too tired to do anything else, then it becomes an issue. If I burn a lot of energy during the day, when I get home, I tend to just rest, relax and a lot of times I take a nap. My quality time with my family suffers, my house chores gets put on the side and my quiet time with Christ becomes non-existent.
